On October 16, 2025, Mr. Pan Gongsheng, PBOC Governor, met with Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings. Mr. Xuan Changneng, PBOC Deputy Governor, attended the meeting, before which he also met with Dan Katz, First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF.

Governor Pan pointed out that, driven by geopolitical, technological, and other developments, the global economic landscape is undergoing profound changes. As the leading multilateral financial institution in the world, the IMF should take a clear stand against protectionism, advocate dialogue and cooperation, and defend multilateralism. President Xi proposed the Global Governance Initiative last month. China will play an active part in global governance, and contribute to a more equitable, fair, inclusive and resilient global governance system. The two sides also exchanged views on some specific issues of the cooperation between China and the IMF.
