The Central Banks Governors' Club of the Central Asia, Black Sea Region and Balkan Countries held the 45th meeting virtually on December 8th, 2021. The meeting focused on the economic and financial stability review in the context of COVID-19 pandemic and climate issue. Governor Yi Gang was invited to participate the meeting, and delivered a speech on climate issue via a pre-recorded video.
Governor Yi pointed out that central banks can play a key role in mobilizing private funds for responding to climate change. The PBoC has improved green finance framework and promoted the rapid development of green finance market, thus supporting the green development and low-carbon transition. He made a brief introduction on the Carbon Emission Reduction Facility and the climate stress testing on financial institutions. He stressed that the PBoC will keep cooperating and exchanging views with international partners and jointly support green development.
