The 13th
Executives´ Meeting of East Asia-Pacific Central Banks (EMEAP) Governors´
Meeting was held in Xi´an, China on 27-29 July
2008. Eleven EMEAP member central banks and monetary authorities participated
in the Meeting. Dr. ZHOU Xiaochuan, Governor of the People´s Bank of China
(PBC), chaired this Meeting.
The Governors
reviewed the changing economic and financial linkage between EMEAP and the U.S.
& Euro Area, and discussed the challenges facing the central banks in
fighting against inflation in the East Asia and Pacific
region amid heightened uncertainties in the international environment. The
Governors confirmed the report of 34th EMEAP Deputies' Meeting and the progress
report by the Monetary and Financial Stability Committee, also noted the
progress of regional cooperation in the areas of financial markets, banking
supervision, payment and settlement systems, and information technology in
central banking in the region.
The Governors
cordially accepted the offer of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to host the 14th
EMEAP Governors´ Meeting in 2009.
The Governors
expressed their appreciation to the People´s Bank of China for its warm hospitality
and the excellent arrangements for the Meeting.
