Issuance Plan of Gold and Silver Commemorative Coins in 2002

The People's Bank of China has published its plan for issuance of gold and silver commemorative coins in 2002. The new issuance will include 10 sets, comprising 19 gold coins,1 platinum coin and 21 silver coins. The making of gold and silver coins in 2002 will employ many new techniques such as mirror surface, multi-layer etching, low and high relief, laser holographic image, etc..

The number of sets to be issued in 2002 will be the same as that in 2001. The gold coins to be issued in 2002 amount to 251,000 ounce (including 220,000 ounce of Panda coins issued in general condition), which is 40,100 ounce less than the issuance plan of 2001; The silver coins that will be issued in 2002 totals 2.047 million ounce (including 500,000 ounce of Panda silver coins issued in general condition), which is 474,000 ounce more than that of 2001. Based on the demand of domestic and overseas market, the issuance of gold and silver commemorative coins in 2002 will continue to follows the policy of "aggregate control, structural adjustment, ensuring top quality and creation of new products".
